Oddball Leadership
What even is it?
This is a brand-new thought experiment, which could absolutely derail in three weeks, and that’s okay — but bear with me for a second.
Take, like, 60 seconds of your life to come up with 4-5 properties of a leader.
You might say a leader has presence — when a leader walks into a room, everyone notices and the tenor of the environment shifts.
You might say a leader has power — the influence and the network to pursue and complete a particular objective.
Similarly, you might say a leader has authority — a person that peers and colleagues look to for direction and expertise.
Leaders are pragmatic and analytical.
Detail-oriented.
Decisive.
Reserved.
Mysterious.
Effortless problem solvers.
Are those the only kind of characteristics you could come up with in 60 seconds? Cool. Great job. And sorry you’ve ever only known boring and stuffy leaders. *cue The Price is Right losing horn*
A great leader can be all of those things.
AND!
I’m a millennial, I communicate in memes. Just shut up.
There is no frickin’ way I am dropping this truth bomb for the first time. There has to be some VHS from the 1980s in a dusty, old cabinet somewhere in a Human Resources office talking about the softer (???) ways to lead.
But is it as funny as me tho? Probably not.
So hop in, and buckle the hell up and I’m going to tell you all about Oddball Leadership™.
